Lincoln Annex

Lindy, Matt, and Jenifer are the only candidates in this race who fought against the sale of the Lincoln Annex School, a move that will displace its 750 students and needlessly deprive them of a neighborhood school for years to come.

The incumbent Board of Education members decided to close the school despite massive community opposition, giving in to political pressures from the Mayor of New Brunswick and Robert Wood Johnson Hospital.

The process used to close and sell the school was illegal and the district has wasted taxpayer dollars to fight in court against parents, advocates, and other community members in their rush to permanently close the high-performing public school after spending $22 million in tax dollars to acquire, renovate, and open it only to give it up after just four years in operation. Now, our opponents are forcing the displaced students to attend school in a rented warehouse building located in a dangerous area far from their neighborhood, and their plans to replace Lincoln Annex are not in the students’ best interests.

The Students First team stands strong with the Lincoln Annex community and will advocate for every neighborhood to have a good, safe community school.
